New Year New Me?

I listened to a message a little while back, it had a very interesting title that I don’t remember now, it’s an old message, had to go back a few years to find it. A lesson I picked from it though was about how “you don’t grow old on birthdays”. That could have very well been the title now but oh well. Today I’m telling you “You don’t become new in the new year”.

Now I am not one of those people who belittle events and render them inconsequential, that’s not what’s happening here. It is a new year and a new season packed with new opportunities, new challenges and so many expectations. We have a world system for a reason and if the calendar says it’s a new year then it’s a new year!

The year is brand new but you’re not though. It’s a big deal and a new season but it’s the same old you. The clock didn’t hit midnight and add an inch to your height in commemoration… I’m saying, the year is new and it’s a new season, it promises a lot that can and will happen that may or may not impact your person directly. Your growth or change is daily and deliberate, something that you look back on, not something that you start with. I mean, sure you can make decisions and plans, new year resolutions and what nots, good stuff. You will still need to get to the end and compare with the starting to determine growth. If you didn’t grow in 2023 then it means you’re stuck at the person you were in 2022. A new you is born through the process, due process.

Growth here refers to a transformation by a renewal of your mind. It is your being transformed to please God and do His perfect will (Romans 12:2)

In 2024, let the Holy Spirit help you grow. The Holy Spirit! Not your feelings, not what was done to you, not what you did. The Holy Spirit guides you through processes. I’m particular about this because there is just so much you can do by yourself. Trying to learn or unlearn by yourself is an effort in futility as you will end up with so many blind spots. God works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure. He works it out in you not you working it out yourself. You have tried and failed again and again, how about you let the Master go at it this time? He leaves no blind spots behind, His workings are 360 degrees.

Of course, growing is a drastic process, but the turnout is mostly beautiful, especially when you’re growing as you should. Who better to guide you to grow as you should than the One who made you? Allow Him to refine you by His Spirit by submitting to Him, and at the end of the year maybe, just maybe, you will be new and ready to go again in the new year. You never stop growing right?!

Try Jesus in 2024, you can bet on His odds because they are sure!

Happy New Year! 🎆
